#4, "Anyone up for Rye Patch?"

I was asked recently if I knew anyone goes to Rye Patch and wondered if there was any interest in going maybe some time in May. Maybe as a training session? It would be great if there were some seasoned vets that have been there before to show us how, where, etc.

If nobody is interested in Rye Patch is there some other place you could recommend? I know that lately there has been a lot of people wanting to learn the art of metal detecting. Possibly a club outing along these lines?

I think it would be great. My problem would be the drive from Portland to Rye Patch. I know it's not near as far from Nampa to Rye Patch. You might check with Gerry of Gerry's Detectors (in Boise). He might have some suggestions on where to go in the area.

Good luck,
Sodbuster

Hi Jesse

I've talked to a few people who might be interested but, like us, they have no experience at Rye Patch. We'll have to bring it up at the meetings and see what response we get. Keep your fingers crossed.

The URL for Gerry's detectors (which also has a link to his training calendar -- $$ but also check out the products for when you purchase a detector you get a discount on the training) is

http://www.gerrysdetectors.com

You will need to cut/paste the URL into your browser.

Good luck,
Sodbuster

I spoke with Gerry a few nights ago. We discussed several topics and he gave me some ideas of what to look for when we go but he's in the business of taking paying customers so he wasn't specific. I can't blame him for that... it's his business. If anyone is interested, he has trips to Rye Patch and/or Sumpter, Oregon in April, May, July, August and September.

I have had some people ask if we had considered going in June instead of May. Would that be a better time for everyone?

Hi guys.

As of now, it looks like the trip to Rye Patch will be Memorial weekend due to work schedules. If this isn't convenient for you let me know and maybe we can figure something out.

Hi All,

My name is Randy Thompsen. I'm in Blackfoot, and as your very newest member I can offer a lot about Rye Patch. I just bought a new minlab GPX 4000 from Gerry 3 days before I found out about the 4500. But Gerry squeezed me into his 3 day training at Rye Patch and after I stayed 5 days longer to check out Sawtooth and Rabbit Hole also. I just got back last saturday.
I can't say enough about Gerry. And his training is simply awsome. This class was a lot bigger than he usually does it. 12 people including one guy that had bought his third machine and was there for his third time (Bill). He was most helpfull and Gerry also had Mark who is the actual leese of the property where we stayed and another expierenced guy both with GPX 4000. Gerry had not recieved his 4500s yet or him and Mark would of had them. I was in heaven with all that helpfull knowledge around me. We found at least 8 small pieces of gold with the VLF machines and 8 larger deep nuggets with the big PI machines with my 4.5 grammer the biggest and .8 gram the smallest. Mine was 16" deep in hard digging.
I have property down in Meadview, AZ by Lake Mead and next week I'm going down there for a couple weeks for gold and meterites (anyone up for that?) but I might be able to meet you guys in Rye Patch. I could probably get my new friend Bill from Carlin to show up for some training also.
I will work on posting some of our Rye Patch pictures as they are not on "Gerrys" site yet.

Randy T.

If you would like to post the pictures on the site, let me know and I can arrange to get them set up. Just send an email to me via the webmaster email (link at bottom of Idaho GPAA home page).

Sodbuster your webmaster link won't work. There are a lot of pictures that Gerry sent me. 6 sets. Mabey you can go through them and only post the ones you want. (after I get them to you) If anybody wants I can just forward them all to you if I have your email address. A lot of the pictures won't mean much to you guys but it might give you the look of the country where we were hunting.

Hi Guys

We're down to about three weeks and as of now it looks like 5 or 6 people will be going. If you know anyone who might be interested let them know.

I think we should begin making plans so everyone is on the same page. You can email me at camserv@yahoo.com or call me at (208) 724-0917. Depending on circumstances, I hope to leave here on the 23rd and return on the 27th. Start charging your detectors, dusting off your tents/trailers or making reservations (as a couple may do).

If you are not going but have some suggestions that would improve our odds of finding those little pieces of gold we would welcome your input.

Keep thinking good weather.

John
